Flooding and Sewer System Vulnerability in Roanoke Rapids

Flooding Map

This project explores how surface flooding can impact sanitary sewer systems and contribute to inflow and infiltration (I&I). I developed a geospatial analysis combining a high-resolution DEM, sewer network data, and simulated water depth outputs to identify areas where flooding may compromise infrastructure.

The map integrates results from a hydrologic simulation (SIMWE in GRASS GIS) with elevation and sewer system data to highlight vulnerable zones. The goal is to support better understanding of how climate-driven precipitation and flooding can increase stress on wastewater systems and lead to potential overflows.

This work contributes to ongoing research on I&I by linking environmental processes with infrastructure performance through geospatial visualization.

Design and Implementation of Nature-Based Solutions

Coastal Drone Mapping
Shoreline Analysis

I co-led the design, implementation, and monitoring of nature-based solutions aimed at reducing flood risk and improving urban resilience. Projects included stream restoration, rain gardens for stormwater management and green roof.

These interventions were developed in collaboration with municipalities and funded through international cooperation projects. My role included site analysis, design support, and post-implementation monitoring to evaluate performance.
